ABOUT G.A.P
The GREYHOUND ADOPTION PROGRAM is a non profit organization created by greyhound lovers dedicated to finding homes for greyhounds whose racing careers have ended. GAPs purpose is to ensure that retired greyhounds are able to find loving nurturing families once they have finished racing. After all, greyhounds need a home to go to at the end of the race.
Through a more positive image, GAP hopes to increase the public's desire to care for these pets after their racing careers have finished. All GAP greyhounds are Temperament Tested, Sterilized, C5 Vaccinated, Wormed, Micro-chipped (as of 2011), have their teeth cleaned and come with a lead, collar, warm winter jacket and plenty of support from GAP. It is our hope that we can improve the image of these beautiful dogs and find loving homes that will bring happiness to both owners and pets.

SPONSORS
GAPSA is very fortunate to have the backing of.Greyhound Racing SA who have supplied GAP with an office, computer and financial support.
One of our very important sponsors is Advance Pet Foods- providing GAP with high quality food for our dogs whilst they are in foster.
Bayer is a long standing sponsor since 2007, they supply all Greyhound Adoption Programs with Advocate that help us prevent fleas and worms.
GAP has a regular veterinary services at the Gawler South Small Animal Hospital, Pet Universe(Broadview & Northgate), The Pet Doctor (Woodville & West Lakes), Southern Animal Hospital (Morphettvale), South Coast Animal Hospital, Whyalla Vet, Riverland Veterinary Clinic. All our vets specialize in GAP greyhounds. While in foster care, each dog will be spayed/neutered, immunized, clip nails, clean/check teeth and give a general overall health check on all the GAP dogs to ensure we pass on a healthy, happy dog.
We have a specialty vet, Matthew Condon that has volunteered his time. He does animal chiropractic and acupuncture. Matthew does a wonderful job and always does his best to make sure our foster greyhounds feel 100%.
Aberfoyle and Absolute Pet Supplies have recently joined us, they generously donate treat bags to each dog upon their adoption. My Ani-Mall Pet Food and Accessories also assist GAP with discount muzzles for our dogs while in foster care. The Woofery has also joined GAP by donating vouchers for free treats to each dog adopted on our special day.
We are also fortunate to have 2 wonderful ladies , Kay Versari and Denise Wenger who very generously make the dog coats, leads and collars at a reduced cost, that are supplied to each of our adopted and foster dogs.
Without these people and companies we would be struggling and therefore we much appreciate their kind generosity which makes putting our dogs through the program that much easier.

ACTIVITIES
GAP has a few social functions throughout the year, when all GAP greyhounds, their owners and friends come together for a good long chat and a day of fun.
* GAP Open Days June and December every year
* Playgroups (various times throughout the year)
* Christmas Picnic (included at our Open Day)
* Easter Picnic (Easter or approximate)
* GAP Birthday Bash (July)
Hard working fosterers, Committee members, Greyhound Trainers/Owners, and others who contribute during the year in some way come along and a great time is had by all. It's amazing how so many greyhounds can be in the same place at one time and a fight never breaks out.
The first function is in the Easter time of the year and usually involves an afternoon tea and catching up with friends and letting the dogs run leash free in the doggy play areas etc. Greyhound Racing SA at Angle Park is the only area GAP greyhounds can run free off lead. We have 2 special areas, completely fenced and secure where GAP hounds can play. In this particular area it is greyhounds only.
The second function is in June when GAP has its Bi-annual GAP Open Day. This day is open to the public and we encourage the general public, potential adopters and GAP community to come along and join in the fun. There are specialty stalls, BBQ, kids entertainment, BBQ and so much more, and its getting bigger all the time!
The next event is July and that is a very special one, July is GAP birthday month, one night in July we hold our annual GAP Night Birthday Bash, this fun night is also a fundraising dinner. Friends and family are welcomed to come along and sit down to a all-you-can-eat buffet at Chasers Restaurant, watch the greyhounds race around the track, and enjoy a GAP parade of dogs during the night. Its a wonderful night filled with party balloons, cupcakes, raffles and more!
Last but not least! Is the end of the year Christmas picnic which is also
included with our GAP Open Day. There is a B.B.Q., raffle, games, entertainment,
bouncy castles, face painting, fancy dress (dogs and people) We also have
categories of Best eater, Best tail wager, Best male, Best female and others,
and we are even so special, that we get a visit from SANTA! Yes, Santa comes
to visit all good greyhounds and their families on this day, rolling in
with his 2 grey-eindeer, handing out candy canes for the humans
and dog treats for the hounds. Dont forget to tell Santa what your
wish list is!
Other times of the year we have a stand at the Royal Adelaide Show, Morphetville
Easter Craft Fair, and other venues where we can educate people about the
suitability of our GAP greyhounds as pets and where people can have a 'hands
on' experience with the dogs themselves.
